Tucked into a busy intersection in the Fairview neighborhood, the Holy Trinity Rain Garden is a quiet oasis, a living pantry hidden in plain sight. Paw paws, plums, persimmons, hazelnuts, and dozens of native edibles grow here, filtering stormwater and feeding the community at the same time. And right now, one tree in particular is ready to share its fruit.

Join Wild Ones PA Ridge & Valley Chapter Vice President Jordan for a Juneberry tasting and gathering walk at the rain garden. Also known as serviceberries, these small, sweet fruits ripen in June, and this year we're getting together to try them as a community.

Jordan will lead a short workshop on the serviceberry: its ecology, its role in this garden, and its deep cultural significance. He'll be drawing on The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer, a book about reciprocity, indigenous wisdom, and what it means to be a good steward of the earth. This book was shared with many Wild Ones members last Christmas. If you received a copy and it moved you, this is a wonderful occasion to gather around it in person.

A note on the harvest: fruiting is lighter than usual this year due to late frost, but there is enough to taste and celebrate. We may also try our hand at making fruit leather or jelly, just as we do with the plums.

After the workshop, those who'd like to stay are welcome to help with a little light garden maintenance, weeding and invasive species removal. This is entirely optional and low-key.
